When reading the post "Marketman & Family Check into hospital..." at Market Manila it reminded me of a time, 25 years ago now, when I was living in Kuala Lumpur and my Mum started a foodie group called 'Galloping Gourmets'. Each month they would find some out of the way eatery with great food. My favorites were Malacca Mud Crabs and Clay Pot Chicken. Extra delicious due to eating with our fingers I am sure!
When overseas visitors came to stay they too would come along to these foodie evenings. Often they would raise their eyebrows as we arrived at some side road cafe with Formica tables and chairs. Though once they started to taste the food and take in the aromas of all the spices there was never a complaint in the house. Good food is good food whether a home cooked meal, side street cafe or 5 star restaurant. If its good you will always be back despite the chipped plates, sweaty waiters and open-air toilets!
